The pain
Phantom stops eat 15–30% of downtime on packaging lines. Average loss: €2-15k per hour. MTTR: 25-45 minutes — most of it spent figuring out which sensor / interlock / counter caused the stop.
HMI screens show fixed alarms only. The phantom never shows up. TIA Portal Online needs a sitting engineer. SCADA is too high-level.
The fix
Operator hits "Why Stop?" on a tablet. Edge agent snapshots PLC state — I/Q tags, marker bits, DB values, diagnostic buffer, OB execution stats, FB call hierarchy.
Claude has the source code (cached) + the snapshot. Returns a ranked diagnosis with probabilities and a plain-language action plan in the operator's language.
